Since 1980, millions of job
seekers have already used professional resume writing services
for creating their resumes and cover letters. Those who chose
a good resume writing service, also achieved their main goal –
to beat the competition for jobs and get hired. The
others had to learn the hard way that NOT every writer has the
skill or expertise required to create a winning
resume.
A
skilled professional resume writing service could be worth its
weight in gold. It can greatly increase your chances of being
hired for a better job, help you get offers of a bigger salary or
income, improve your chances of obtaining promotions and,
generally, advance your career. That's why those who
have used a good resume writing service, nearly always
return.
OUTSOURCING OR FARMING OUT WRITING WORK TO PART-TIMERS. You
also need to be very careful. Recently, I was asked to improve
and even redo a few resumes that had been produced by "better"
resume writing services. At first, I was puzzled but after
questioning each of the clients concerned, I discovered that their
resumes had NOT been prepared by the expert writer who is supposed
to be in charge of M.......COM -- a well-known resume service but by "Christine", "Bob" and "Susan" – their hired
assistants. (You can forget about "quality control!)
You also
need to be aware of the growing practice of farming out
(outsourcing) resume writing assignments to PART-TIME WRITERS.
Outside parties usually lack the experience to produce a truly
effective, high-quality resume. They are the ones who
typically describe an accomplished senior executive as "highly
motivated" or "self-motivated" which is very, very amateurish
writing. Such phrases would be appropriate for an entry-level
resume!
You see,
the fact that such writers or English teachers or journalists might
have earned a certificate in resume writing is NO guarantee that
they won't write yours in the language of literature instead of
using the employer's own keywords! Perhaps they won't even
know which to use in your resume or cover letter. One
learns what the best "SELLING POINTS" are by analyzing the skills
required in related job ads and by writing hundreds of resumes that
have already worked! This is why you need to determine up
front WHO will be writing your resume. He or she may NOT be
the same party whose face and impressive credentials are featured on
a very attractive website!
In some
"group" resume writing services they try to impress by advising that
they have a "TEAM OF EXPERT RESUME WRITERS" waiting to assist
you. How are you supposed to check out the expertise of the
particular party who will be doing your resume?YOU CAN'T. What is his or
her track record in resume writing? What guarantee will you
have of getting a high-quality product for your money – an effective
resume?
Many
inexperienced resume hacks and quacks can be found on the
Internet. Who are they? Some time ago, a legal transcription
service on the West coast grabbed entire pages from this copyrighted
website, replaced our name and address with theirs and instantly
became an "experienced" and "professional" resume writing
service! (Although I was flattered by their choice of my site,
I managed to stop those resume writing phonies real fast!
After all, I had paid my dues for the previous 15 years; they
hadn't!)
The vast
majority of those companies are only "PAPER MILLS" that are staffed
by untrained and inexperienced personnel. Or they've
been churning out the same weak versions year after year. As a
rule, they can only prepare very basic resumes, NOT focused or
tailored ones that today's employers expect. Even those
writers who may be sincere, are grossly inept! Some are only
typing or secretarial firms whose products are worth $10 – or less!
These WON'T help you at all. In fact, you will lose job
opportunities or get hired for a lower-paying position than you
deserve!
